Race Summary

CLASSIC CAMPAIGN, in hand near the inside from the start, saved ground for six furlongs, eased out between foes three or four wide nearing the final quarter, took over at the eighth pole and drove clear. ARGENTO, never far back and tracking the leaders four or five wide, moved with the winner while outside that one on the second turn, loomed a solid threat for the drive but wasn't good enough. CHIEF COMMANDER inherited the lead between calls on the first turn when SPINFIRE bore out, raced forwardly after surrendering the edge to that one, edged to a slight advantage between calls in the upper stretch, lost the lead to the winner at the furlong pole and weakened. POCO BUENO, lightly rated while following the leaders in a contending position five or six wide, lacked a late response. SCOTT'S CAT, unhurried while maneuvered near the inside, saved ground to the stretch, eased out four wide for the drive, reached a contending position at the furlong grounds and flattened out. GOLD MINISTER, in behind horses three or four wide most of the way, never rallied. SPINFIRE bore out seven or eight wide on the first turn, was straightened entering the backstretch, opened a clear lead, showed the way to the stretch and faltered. MAJOR ASCOT tired upon going a half. CHIRINDA FOREST was outrun.

PARKER VALLEY settled early, raced three wide down the backstretch and around the second turn, loomed in upper stretch and then was no match for the top two. GENERAL CHARLEY stalked GULLY WASHER from early on, bid around the second turn, drifted in after turning for home and then weakened late. SCOTT'S CAT inside early, moved out down the backstretch, continued out and lacked a finish. HE'S ROYAL DEE raced inside to mid stretch, got steered out and could make little impact. GULLY WASHER set the pace to nearing the drive and then weakened once overtaken.
