|
IT WAS THE DUKES broke alertly and stalked the pace
from the outside in hand, moved up easily to the leader on the
second turn, quickly took command and drew off then held driving.
LUCKY PERFORMER steadied hard at the start and settled from the
rail, advanced three wide on the second turn but lacked the needed
response. SHARK HUNTER tracked the leaders early three wide, dropped
back and saved ground on the second turn then passed tiring horses.
PISTOL PAKIN PETE set the pace from the inside to the second turn
and came up empty. KOBAYASHI broke a bit slow, was fanned five wide
to the backstretch, advanced briefly near the second turn but gave
out. FIDDY CENTS flashed brief speed from the rail only. ANSWER ON
was never a factor and was eased in the stretch but walked off.
BRAZOS DANCER pulled up on the backstretch and was vanned off.

| Race Summary |
|
CORONADO'S WAY prompted the pace three deep between
horses then stalked into the turn, re-bid outside the pacesetter on
the turn, gained the advantage in the stretch and proved best under
some left handed urging. MIDNIGHTER broke a bit slowly, settled
inside then just off the rail, came out on the turn, advanced four
wide leaving the bend and three deep into the stretch, drifted in
some but finished with interest. ANATOLIAN STAR dueled inside,
inched away into the turn, fought back inside the winner on the turn
and until just past midstretch and bested the others. KOBAYASHI
broke a bit in the air, pressed the pace four wide then stalked
outside, came three deep into the stretch and weakened. BASELESS
INUENDO forced the pace between horses then stalked a bit off the
rail, dropped back on the turn and also weakened. CURICO close up
stalking the pace inside, remained along the rail and had little
left for the stretch. |

|
MR. KATZ stalked inside then a bit off the rail,
bid alongside a rival and took the lead into the stretch, then drew
clear under urging. DIAMOND SUCKER sped to the early lead outside a
rival, angled in and set the pace inside, was no match for the
winner in the stretch but clearly second best. NICCOLO DREAM angled
in and saved ground chasing the pace, came out on the second turn
and again into the stretch and picked up the show. LOW CREEK was in
a good position stalking the pace three deep to the stretch and was
edged for third between foes late. KOBAYASHI chased between horses
to the stretch, continued toward the inside and weakened. BAHRI'S
GOLD forced out at the start, settled off the rail then angled in,
came out on the second turn and into the stretch and was not a
threat. DOWNTOWN VICTORY veered out at the start, also settled off
the rail, angled in on the backstretch, came out into the stretch
and failed toe menace. CRYPTORIA RIDGE stalked the pace inside,
dropped back into the stretch and gave way. |

BROTHER DEREK broke in and bumped the runner-up,
went four wide into the first turn then angled in and dueled outside
a rival, kicked clear on the second turn and held on gamely under
good handling while being shown the whip. YOUR TENT OR MINE bumped
at the start, stalked outside a rival, loomed behind the winner in
the stretch and continued willingly but could not catch that one.
BOB AND JOHN stalked inside, came off the rail on the second turn,
was roused nearing the stretch, came three deep into the lane and
bested the others. A. P. WARRIOR pulled his way along four wide into
the first turn, chased outside, came three deep into the stretch and
lacked the needed rally. OLD THUNDER had speed between horses then
dueled inside, stalked along the rail on the second turn and
weakened in the stretch. JEALOUS PROFIT three deep early, chased
between horses then a bit off the rail, found the inside leaving the
backstretch and could not offer the necessary response. ECRU EGRET
was allowed to settle a bit off the rail and failed to menace.
KOBAYASHI bumped, steadied sharply and squeezed back at the start,
pulled inside, dropped back nearing the second turn, gave way and
was eased in the stretch. A claim of foul by the rider of the
runner-up against the winner for alleged interference at the start
was not allowed by the stewards, who ruled the contact between that
pair was not sufficient to alter the original order of finish.
