DELICATE DYNAMITE reserved to the second turn,
split foes approaching the drive, swung out to rally, gained the
edge a furlong out, jumped the starting gate tracks a sixteenth out
and proved best while kept to a drive. EYES ON EDDY angled to the
inside going to the first turn, continued inside to the second turn,
moved around ALY'S VOW before the drive, was steered out inside the
final furlong and got up for second. DASH OF HUMOR four wide around
the first turn, continued out down the backstretch, came three wide
around the second turn, bid in upper stretch and then had no final
kick. BALLROOM DEPUTY trailed until the second turn, circled foes
while rallying and then passed beaten foes. LIFE'S GREAT set the
pace to the drive, was overtaken and then weakened. LADY PEGASUS
forwardly placed three wide, loomed a threat and then tired. STORMY
AMBER four wide around both turns, faded. ALY'S VOW stalked LIFE'S
GREAT to the second turn and then gave way. |

|
PYRAMID LOVE, reluctant to load into the gate, was
blindfolded before entering, went up early to press front-running
VICTOIRE BATAILLE in hand, took over leaving the second turn,
accelerated quickly to a clear advantage, then was under urging the
remainder. EYES ON EDDY, in behind foes early, raced between horses
around the far turn, loomed four wide for the final furlong and
wasn't good enough. CLASSY CHARM, well placed in behind rivals from
the outset, eased out between foes four wide entering the upper
stretch, was just off the winner but failed to continue. CAPE HOPE,
unhurried early, raced five wide around the far turn, was asked for
more nearing the stretch but failed to offer the needed late
response. PATRICIA (ARG) stumbled at the break, was outrun for six
furlongs while three wide, maneuvered six wide into the lane and
improved position. VICTOIRE BATAILLE gained the advantage near the
inside early, managed a slight edge, surrendered the lead to the
winner approaching the stretch and weakened. TAPPIN FOR GOLD tracked
the pace five wide from early on, was asked for her best about the
five-sixteenths pole and faltered. |

PRETTY JENNY exchanged a bump with MAGGIE JORDANG
at the start, lacked speed four wide, rallied in the stretch and was
along in time under strong handling. MAGGIE JORDAN traded a bump at
the start, raced near the middle of the field, rallied in the
stretch then could not match strides with the winner. TAX REFUND
vied for the lead three wide then could not hold off the top two.
SILVER CROWN pressed the pace from between foes and weakened. EYES
ON EDDY lacked speed and failed to reach contention. GRAND PORTEGE
was never a factor. GUIDING STAR had speed inside and tired.

| Race Summary |
|
FLEET INDIAN took a short lead on the backstretch,
set the balance of the pace from the rail while pressed, was roused
once in upper stretch and drew off under a brisk hand ride. SILVER
HIGHLIGHT raced close up three wide and rallied for the place while
no match for the winner. PLATINUM BALLET saved ground near the
middle of the field and rallied mildly for a share. EYES ON EDDY
raced off the rail near the middle of the field and had no response
when asked. FOR GILLIAN trailed along the inside then failed to
reach a contending position. SUNSET KISSES was void of speed four
wide and was never a serious factor. TAPPIN FOR GOLD had speed off
the rail and gave way. CULINARY was always outrun.

|
OONAGH MACCOOL (IRE) was steadied to avoid EYES ON
EDDY when she broke in at the start, moved up to track the pace,
angled outside the leaders at the top of the stretch and rallied to
draw clear under urging. SWEET SYMPHONY stalked the pace, moved to
take over leaving the far turn while still in hand but couldn't
match strides with the winner while clearly second best. CLASSY
CHARM set the pace along the inside into the stretch and tired.
MOCITA rank when taken back off the pace in the early going, saved
ground while racing in striking position into the far turn, then
faltered. EYES ON EDDY broke out at the start, then steadied in
behind MOCITA on the first turn and failed to be a factor. SAINT
KRIS rated off the pace, raced three wide on the far turn and faded.

WEND well handled while making the pace along the

fully extended to hold BRUNILDA (ARG) safe. The latter, stalked the
pace along the rail, eased out to make a run at the winner through
the stretch but couldn't gain late. HONEY RYDER stalked the pace
three wide into the stretch, then didn't do enough late. HIGH COURT
(BRZ) reserved early, saved ground into the stretch and closed with
a mild response. AMBITIOUS CAT unhurried after breaking slowly,
raced three wide and failed to menace. EYES ON EDDY tired from good
position. DARLUNA prompted the pace outside WEND to nearing the
stretch, then faltered. |

|
EYES ON EDDY stalked the pace four wide, rallied to
gain the lead leaving the far turn and opened a clear lead, then was
fully extended to last over TAITTINGER ROSE while drifting out. The
latter, unhurried early, swung out for the stretch run, rallied to
reach EYES ON EDDY in deep stretch but couldn't get to that rival
while clearly second best. MARCHONIN stalked the pace, slipped
through along the rail to gain a brief lead on the far turn, then
tired. COTOPAXI chased the pace three wide, made a run to reach even
terms for command on the far turn, then faltered. ELLE RUNAWAY set
the pace off the rail to midway of the far turn, then faded.

|
EYES ON EDDY tucked in behind leaders to the turn,
waited for room at the quarter pole then angled out just past that
point and responded to pressure and quickly drew off through the
stretch as much the best. MALAYSIA (GB) showed good speed while
three wide to deep stretch but was no match to the winner but held
the place spot gamely. MISS WELLSPRING raced within striking
distance for three quarters, gained a short lead approaching the
furlong pole but did not have enough late to go on. WINNING SEASON
came out running and quickly angled over to vie for the lead then
tired from inside through the stretch run. STRIKE ME LUCKY showed no
speed and improved position while no real threat. REGALE raced
evenly and lacked a late response. KRISTY BEETHOVEN failed to
menace. DISTURBING was through after a half. DOWRY had good speed to
duel for three quarters then gave way in the stretch run. ARABIAN
SPELL (IRE) raced evenly to the stretch and dropped back. HOLD A
MOONBEAM was never in contention, pulled up in distress after a half
and vanned off. |

FOR ALL WE KNOW drifted in at the break and bumped
lightly with COMACINA, was never far back while near the inside
between rivals, was put to a drive about the five-sixteenths pole,
advanced four wide into the stretch, took over nearing the final
sixteenth and drove clear under strong handling. FLYING GLITTER went
up inside of front-running SIMPLY BECAUSE early to gain a forward
position, reached the front two or three wide approaching the final
quarter, showed the way into the final furlong and wasn't a match
late for the winner. CAREER ORIENTED, outsprinted for a half while
racing in behind horses, moved six wide entering the upper stretch,
reached easy striking distance but gained only slightly in the late
going. SIMPLY BECAUSE gained the advantage early, raced four or five
wide, lost the edge to FLYING GLITTER from the inside nearing the
stretch and gradually weakened. COMACINA, bumped lightly at the
break by FOR ALL WE KNOW, gained a forward position early, fell back
on the turn while remaining near the inside, then bested the rest
while not a threat. HIDE AND CHIC, well placed four or five wide to
the stretch, flattened out when straightened for the drive. WINNING
SEASON raced six or seven wide and failed to threaten. LEAVE ME
ALONE, five or six wide, raced within striking distance to the
stretch and came up empty. EYES ON EDDY never reached contention.
SWEDE, three or four wide while between foes in a forward position
for a half, weakened soon after. AMAZING BUY was outrun.

| Race Summary |
|
FLYING GLITTER was on the pace racing about the two
and three path while pressured from her inside by MISS MATCHED,
gamely dispatched that rival entering the lane to kick clear then
held EYES ON EDDY safe late while drifting in and out a bit in the
closing sixteenth. EYES ON EDDY stalked the pace racing three and
four wide while never far back, came five wide into the stretch with
her bid and slowly closed but could not run down the winner. MISS
MATCHED was hustled up inside FLYING GLITTER to force the issue into
the first turn, remained along the rail to bid repeatedly heading up
the backstretch and through the far turn, took back and angled out
in midstretch then weakened and lost the place late. R LADY JOY
stalked the pace racing three to four wide in good position, moved
to challenge into the far turn then could not mount a final closing
response. PUSSYCAT DOLL tracked the leaders from three wide, moved
to challenge midway up the backstretch then weakened in the far
turn. RIMROC GOLD lacked early speed to drop well off the pace then
closed a gap through the lane but was not a threat.

MISS MATCHED settled in close up off the rail,
continued to stalk to the stretch, was asked for her best turning
for home, rallied to the lead and held sway at the wire. GALLANT
SECRET was void of speed while off the rail, angled to the middle of
the track for the drive and closed resolutely but could not get to
the winner. TAPPIN FOR GOLD was reluctant to load, lacked speed four
wide, rallied in the stretch and belatedly gained a share. EYES ON
EDDY lacked speed inside, came out five wide and rallied to loom a
threat but flattened out. WHIMSY raced inside near the middle of the
field and made a bid in the stretch but faltered. EASILY raced off
the rail near the middle of the field and gave way. RITZY set the
pace to the stretch from off the rail then tired from her early
efforts. FLIP SIDE saved ground but gave way after a half.

EYES ON EDDY lacked speed inside, angled out for
the drive, rallied through the lane and was along in time. FOLLOW
THE LITE raced close up inside, rallied in the stretch and just
failed to last. JOHNS PLACE raced three wide near the middle of the
field and rallied belatedly for a share. SALT SYN pressed the pace
from off the rail and weakened. PATRICIA'S SECRET set the pace from
the inside while pressed and weakened. GRAND APPEAL was through
early. NATIONS LADY lacked speed three wide and was always outrun.
ROOVILLE trailed throughout. |

|
SEEK A STAR worked her way in early to press
front-running FLYING FALCON three or four wide, took over just prior
to going a half, moved well clear into the lane and widened a bit
under energetic hand urging. CAPITULATION ducked in after the start
and soundly bumped FULL OF FUN, was never far back, raced in behind
rivals to the lane, angled five wide and was up for the place.
CUPID'S DIXIE, nicely position three or four wide, was just off the
winner for the final furlong and came up empty. EYES ON EDDY,
outsprinted early and four or five wide, reached easy striking
distance entering the upper stretch but lacked a further account.
SIESTA ROSE was taken seven or eight wide during the opening
furlong, maneuvered back in behind horses on the turn, was four wide
for the drive and improved position. ONE STORMY MAMA, forwardly
placed near the inside for five furlongs, weakened thereafter. OVER
THE BORDER was finished leaving the turn and was six or seven wide
in the stretch run. FLYING FALCON gained the lead early, edged
inside, made the pace for almost a half, surrendered the edge to the
winner and faded thereafter. FULL OF FUN bobbled when slammed just
after the start, then never reached contention. A. P. SHEAUXGIRL was
outrun. |

SUMMERLY moved clear early, set the pace under
stout restraint while racing off the rail, edged away through the
lane while easily best. CARLEA forwardly placed outside SUMMERLY to
the second turn, while no match for the winner held second safe.
RUNWAY MODEL unhurried, advanced nearing the second turn, split foes
before the drive, eased out after turning for home and then did not
have enough late. SOUL SEARCH trailed to the drive, swung out and
was no real threat. EYES ON EDDY crossed to the inside before the
first turn, was reserved and showed little. ENDURING WILL unhurried
early, moved out to race widest down the backstretch, made a three
wide bid nearing the drive and then flattened out.

Summerly wins Silverbulletday
Eyes On Eddy fades in stretch to finish 3¼ lengths
back
Sunday, February 13, 2005
By Josh Peter Staff writer
Fans gawked at Summerly as the chestnut-colored filly with the tightly
braided mane circled the paddock Saturday before the Silverbulletday Stakes.
She looked even more dazzling on the track, winning the Grade III $150,000
race for 3-year-old fillies at the Fair Grounds. Widening her lead down the
stretch, Summerly cruised to a 3¼-length victory against Eyes On Eddy while
covering the mile-and-a-sixteenth in a fast time of 1:43.79.
Local fans will get another chance to admire her March 12 in the Grade II
$300,000 Fair Grounds Oaks, the final leg of the three-race prep series.
"I'm awfully excited to have her," trainer Steve Asmussen said. "The Fair
Grounds Oaks is her next spot, and it'd be a super race for her to win."
Summerly, who went off as the 5-2 favorite, improved her stock as a candidate
for the Kentucky Oaks, the premier race for 3-year-old fillies. The same can't
be said for The Beter Man Can, the Louisiana-bred who on the strength of her
upset victory in the Tiffany Lass Stakes was one of 23 fillies on a list of
early-wagering interests for the Kentucky Oaks. She likely went from a long shot
to a no-shot Saturday when she finished fourth, 2¼ lengths behind third-place
finisher Enduring Will and nine lengths behind Summerly.
"The horse tried," said jockey E.J. Perrodin, who rode The Beter Man Can.
"She ran as hard as she can."
Though Eyes on Eddy couldn't beat the favorite, she beat long odds just to
get to the race. Following a morning workout in June at Churchill Downs, she got
spooked, hit a washing machine, fell down, regained her footing and ran head-on
into a dumpster. The accident opened a gaping wound in her chest and left gashes
on her legs.
At one point, she had four draining tubes in her.
"We didn't know if she was going to make it," said Dennis Foster, who co-owns
the filly.
But on Saturday, less than eight months after the accident, she made it to
the starter's gate in good health and without further incident. But that was as
close as she would get to the winner.
After breaking cleanly, Summerly followed Cee's Irish to the lead and stayed
in that position until the final turn. It was then jockey Donnie Meche, aboard
Summerly, heard the pounding hooves of Eyes On Eddy gaining ground and smooched
into Summerly's ears.
"I pushed the button, and she just exploded under me," Meche said.
Leading by two lengths at the top of the stretch, Summerly widened her lead
by another 1¼ lengths by the finish line. It was easy work for her jockey,
thanks to the horse owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds.
"You just let her run her race," Meche said. "I let her break on her own, and
she just finds herself a comfortable stride, like she's done it a thousand
times.
"She's just an unbelievable filly, and she knows she's fast."
Now the gawkers know, too.

SUMMERLY three wide entering the first turn, was
reserved just off CEE'S IRISH down the backstretch, bid midway
around the second turn, gained the edge before the drive, surged
clear and proved best while ridden out. EYES ON EDDY eased to the
inside going to the first turn, was restrained until nearing the
second turn, moved outside to rally, loomed four wide entering the
drive and while no match for the winner was game for second.
ENDURING WILL settled from the inside, raced within striking
distance while just off the rail down the backstretch, got asked
before the drive, split foes, angled to the rail and then lacked the
needed finish. THE BETER MAN CAN under stout restraint early, raced
close up down the backstretch, bid three wide for the drive but did
not have enough late. CEE'S IRISH sprinted clear and to the rail to
set the pace, held the lead until midway around the second turn, was
overtaken by SUMMERLY, switched out nearing the furlong marker and
then raced green in the drive. ELSIE LUCILLE moved to the rail
early, continued inside thereafter and was no real threat. GLORIOUS
PROSPECT settled early, raced off the rail down the backstretch,
came wide in the drive and passed beaten foes. PRIVATE GIFT raced
wide and was no factor. STEAL THE SHOW three wide around the first
turn, raced wide down the backstretch, moved in a bit around the
second turn and then faded. |

THE BETER MAN CAN bobbled leaving the gate brushing
with EMMY'S STORM, was straightened, raced restrained just off PUNCH
APPEAL, bid nearing the drive, gained the edge and prevailed under
strong handling. ENDURING WILL raced three wide around both turns,
closed determinedly but could not overtake the top one. PUNCH APPEAL
drifted out after the break bumping with EMMY'S STORM, was
straightened to sprint clear quickly, remained clear until nearing
the drive, was collared by THE BETER MAN CAN, got headed, fought
back from the inside then weakened late. EYES ON EDDY raced along
the rail to the second turn, moved out and then was no real threat.
CHUBBS LAST CALL saved ground too no avail. EMMY'S STORM bumped from
both sides after the break, got out around both turns and was always
back. |

EYES ON EDDY settled off the rail, bid three wide
approaching the drive, took over and proved clearly best. ELSIE
LUCILLE devoid speed, split foes around the turn, angled out in the
drive and while no match for the winner was best of the rest. DARK
OBSESSION settled off the rail and then closed mildly. FOREVER
BERTIE raced back to the drive and then showed late interest. MY
GIRL ALISH prompted the pace three wide and then gave way. LIVONIA
hard pressed while holding the edge, faltered. SHARON'S DELIGHT vied
between foes until nearing the drive and gave way. SEA SIREN saved
ground too no avail. BERGEN was always back. SKIP AWHILE was never
dangerous. |

late as second best. EYES ON EDDY, outsprinted early, advanced four

but failed to respond. QUEEN COLLEEN, never far back, moved four or
five wide into the stretch and lacked a serious response. LIVONIA
pressed the winner four wide to the stretch and gradually weakened.
WEB was outrun five wide to the stretch, came wider and improved

wide into the upper stretch and flattened out the last eighth.
